SAC/HC’s Recreational Challenge program was established to provide Recreation players additional opportunities to play soccer at a level higher than that of the Select program. The Challenge program is geared specifically towards providing those players an opportunity to experience a Travel atmosphere through tournament and league play.
Age groups are selected on a yearly basis. Please contact your AGC to see if there will be a Challenge team in your age group.
The Challenge program is available to currently registered SAC/HC Recreation players. Additional fees, not included in the SAC registration, will range between $300-$500, depending on tournament and/or league play. This includes a challenge team uniform, league fees, and tournament fees.
A tryout will be held to form each Challenge team. The tryout will be advertised on the SAC website and promoted through email and coach word of mouth. We expect all SAC/HC coaches to support this program. Teams are made up of SAC/HC Recreation players who are age eligible. This means that both Select team players and Recreation team players are eligible to participate in Challenge team tryouts. Please note that all players who participated on a Challenge team the previous year must have attended their age group’s Travel tryouts to remain eligible.
Upcoming Challenge team tryouts will be posted, by age, to the “Tryout Schedule” portion of our website.
Each team will have limited practices prior to tournaments. Each player is to consider their Recreation team as their primary team and the Challenge team as a secondary team. In the event of a conflict, the player must attend the Recreation team event.
Some Challenge teams will participate in weekend tournaments that do not conflict with their SAC/HC Recreation league schedule. Some Challenge teams have the option to compete in the Baltimore Beltway Soccer League (BBSL). Those Challenge teams that do elect to play in BBSL will have their games scheduled by BBSL. BBSL league play is in addition to Recreation league play. SAC/HC will make every attempt to coordinate schedules so that players who participate in BBSL league play do not have conflicts with their Recreation league play.
Challenge team coaches or managers are to order uniforms for their teams by contacting the SAC/HC office.
Parents are expected to provide for their child: a ball, a water bottle, shin guards, and soccer cleats.
